Georgetown to Blackpoint

Sunday morning 3/10 we pulled anchor in Georgetown and heading to Blackpoint.  Sunny skies, light  winds and calm seas.  

On our way we passed a tall ship setting off the coast.  We checked the chart and found her to be the Sea Cloud Spirt.  After doing some googling...we learned she is a luxury cruse ship that takes up to 136 passengers.  Her sails were down when we saw her but WOW what a boat!  I wish we were closer so we could get a better look!

Headed back through Dotham Cut the current was with us and the waves just past the cut gave us an exhilarating ride!  The pictures don't do the waves justice.  

Just a short ride later were were headed into Blackpoint!  

Blackpoint is a small settlement of about 400 people.   There is a very large horseshoe bay that ends in a long beautiful beach.  

There is a Government Dock that boaters are welcome to bring their dingy into to drop off trach (for a donation) and to get limited provisions.  The mail boat bring produce in on Wednesdays, but sometimes Thursday or Friday.  

Blackpoint is probably most known for the laundry facility with showers, Lorraine's Cafe and her mom's homemade coconut bread!   

We ended up staying here an entire week!  We loved this place!  It just so happened that we arrived during regatta week.  This was a 3 day event with dinners (the best fish we have ever had), beach party and games, bands and of course sloop racing!  We had a great time in Blackpoint and we hope to come back again! 

The Government Dock is also where the daily catch comes and is cleaned.....needless to say there are a few sharks and stingrays swimming around so you don't want to fall in!

We stopped by to visit the Iguana's on Gaulin Cay South.  As we started into the beach the Iguana's started coming out from everywhere!  We didn't get off the boat!  Lol!

Weaving contest between a few of the locals. The lady in the white hat is Lorraine's mom, Miss Pierman.  She makes bread everyday.  Her specialty is her coconut bread.....soooo good!
