Green Turtle Cay to Treasure Cay

We departed Green Turtle just before noon on Friday 3/7.

Going through Whales Cay Cut

We arrived at Hope Town and found all the mooring balls were either taken or "reserved".  Appears those who rent the mooring balls (some do for months) can place a reserved marker on the ball to identify that it is taken.  Fortunately we had a guy come up to us in a dingy and offered a private mooring.  His his regular mooring neighbor was gone for the night so he said we were welcome to it, but would have to leave it mid morning.  We jumped on it!

The next morning the same guy was leaving his ball and offered it to us for that night as well!  We had two nights in the inner harbor of Hope Town!  How lucky is that!

Saturday afternoon we checked out the only kerosine fueled lighthouse in current operation.  It was free and open to explore on our own.

These were the boats anchored outside of the harbor.

After the lighthouse we made our way to Captain Jacks which overlooks the inner harbor for lunch.

Sunday morning we dropped the lines and made out way to Marsh Harbor for a quick run to the grocery store for provisions.  We had a 3 day blow in the forecast so we wanted to make sure we were prepared.

Nicely stocked grocery!

The prices for non-processed foods were reasonable; however, processed food prices were about double of what we see in the states.  No biscuits for Bill!

Once goods were on the boat, we were off to Treasure Cay hoping there would be enough room in the inner harbor to wait out the blow.  Luckily we found a great spot!

It's a little sketchy going into Treasure Cay harbor, but it was well marked.

We can finally relax in our new anchorage.

What an amazing sunrise!

Treasure Cay took a direct hit from Hurricane Dorian in 2019 and it's slow to get back on it's feet.  Treasure Cay Marina, once a hot spot with a lively bar, food and a pool, now nothing but a skeleton of what it used to be.

Treasure Cay is known for it's 3 mile pristine beach, and it was!  Just a short walk across the street and up a sand dune and there it was!

Every color of blue as far as you can see.

We had a green turtle that hung out behind our boat for awhile.  It would come up for a minute to catch it's breath and go back down for about 20 minutes at a time.

The wind finally died Tuesday afternoon and we left Wednesday morning.  Looking forward to our next adventure.
