Destin to Apalachicola

Sunday morning we pulled anchor in Destin Harbor in the rain headed across the bay to Two Georges Marina in Shalimar, where we plan to take on fuel, pump out, do some laundry and mechanical maintenance.   This was the first fuel we have taken on since Hammond IN.

From Two Georges we ended up at Choctawhatchee Bay Bridge anchorage in Freeport.  From the anchorage we had a short dingy ride to a park for Roxie.

Tuesday morning we pulled the hook in 42 degrees headed to an anchorage near Panama City.  We arrived a Smack Bayou around noon, secured the anchor and went exploring on the beach.

The next morning we left Smack Bayou headed to Point South Marina in Point Saint Joe, FL.  We ended up staying here a week waiting out a good weather window to cross the Gulf.   This was a great stop!  The marina was brand new and had just opened this past spring after it had been demolished by hurricane Michael in 2018.  So in addition to everything being brand new, including free washer and dryer, there was a shopping center just a short walk away that had a Piggly Wiggly, Bluewater Outfitters and McDonalds!   Just beyond the shopping center was the center of town with all kinds of shops and restaurants and a park with a beach.....all just a short walk away.  Defiantly CHEERS APPROVED and if ever back this way will stay here again!

A week after arriving at Port South Marina, the weather, wind and waves lined up for a possible Gulf crossing to Clearwater on Thursday 12/07.  We left Port Saint Joe on Wednesday 12/06 headed to the city wall in Apalachicola, putting us at a good place to start our crossing Thursday morning, arriving in Clearwater on Friday.

Apalachicola welcoming committee!

Dinner with fellow loopers!

Next up, the Gulf crossing!
