Clearwater to Cape Haze

Saturday morning we left Clearwater Beach headed to Gulfport via the GICW.  No outside travel today, lol!  It was a nice ride, but lots of traffic, which is to be expected on a 83 degree Saturday in Florida!  We anchored in the Gulfport Bay Anchorage and took the dingy into Gulfport for a nice walk along the waterfront.  Just before sunset we made out way back to the boat for dinner and enjoyed view.

Sunday morning we pulled the anchor early, and made our way back out into the Gulf headed to Sarasota FL.  Thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and we want to make sure we are safe and secure in an anchorage before they get here.   The Gulf was a bit choppy, but nothing like the big crossing.

Because of the weather headed our way we decided to take a dock in Sarasota, FL.  We stayed in Marina Jacks for two nights.

Tuesday morning we left Sarasota headed to Cape Haze, FL where we plan to anchor for one night before heading onto Punta Gorda where we have reservations for 7 nights!  We have friends from our home marina, Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio that live in Punta Gorda, and looking forward to seeing them.  In addition, our daughter, Ashley is coming for a long weekend!

We set anchor in Cape Haze just before dark and took Roxie to the Don Pedro Island State Park.  The park had been damaged from hurricane Ian in 2022 and was closed, but we got in by dingy.  The next morning, we took Roxie back for her morning break and did a bit of exploring.  The structures were damaged and there was not much left.....but the beach was still beautiful.

Next up, Punta Gorda
