June 2023 Totals
Below is our Junemonthly summary from Nebo with totals for hours underway and miles traveled. You will notice some missed segments on the map. We believe this is from the bimini top being stored directly over the Nebolink degrading the GPS signal. Below that are numbers from our ships log along with fuel used for the month. If you have any questions or comments please leave them below.

Parry Sound to the Bad River
We departed Parry Sound on a rainy Thursday 7/20 and arrived in Kilcorsie Bay anchorage. This anchorage was alongside a national park, which had campgrounds and a beach! Beaches are rare up here....it normally goes from water, stone to wilderness. After lunch and a quick nap, we decided to move along since it was still raining. This would have been a great stop on a sunny day!
We arrived at Snug Haven which was a really nice anchorage. There were several cottages lining the shore and a little restaurant called Gilly's Snug Harbor, which happen to be known for their fish and chips. We had planned on having dinner there on Friday, but we ended up leaving Friday afternoon due to the wind forecast. Shoot! We were looking forward to those fish and chips!
We arrived at Hopewell Bay where we stayed Friday and Saturday nights. This bay was pretty secluded with only a couple of cottages and we had the entire bay to ourselves Friday night. Saturday morning Roxy decided to get a little crazy.....while on her morning potty break; she decided to stretch her legs and ended up on a rock that was across the water from the rock I was standing on. When she saw me, instead of going back the way she came, she made a direct bee line to me, jumping into the water swimming to me, which was a big surprise because she doesn't like to swim! So Saturday morning became a grooming day. Roxy got a bath, brush and blowout and Bill finally let me trim his beard!
Sunday morning we headed out towards Byng Inlet after breakfast. We have reservations for a dock at Wrights Marine. On our way we passed Point au Baril Lighthouse. Back in the late 19th century fur traders and fishermen left a lantern-topped whisky barrel on the point to help them find the right passage back in from the bay. In 1889 a lighthouse was built to replace the barrel, but the barrel still remains on the site!
There's the barrel!!
We arrived at Wrights early afternoon, The marina was busy with quite a few loopers and we got to chat with a few and get recommendations on must see places in the area.
At the dock in Wrights Marine
Monday morning we left Byng Inlet headed to our next anchorage.
Some tight spots coming back in off the bay looking for our next anchorage......which way do we go?
We tried 3 anchorages; Golden Sword, Sandy Bay and Dead Island. We either couldn't get the anchor to set or the low elevation of the rocks didn't offer enough protection. We decided to push forward for the Bustard Islands and found a great anchorage in Strawberry Inlet where we hung out until Wednesday morning.
Early Wednesday morning Bill pulled anchor and we headed to the Bad River. It's a little tricky getting in, but once your in there is a great anchorage with great holding and protection from all sides. We've heard a lot about Bad River. Once we got settled, Bill took a quick ride around in the dingy to see what everyone was talking about. Yep! There are rapids up those rivers! Some are so swift that our dingy was not able to get up them!
This is the entrance to the area called Devil's Door Rapids. This leads to 5 Finger Rapids, which are forks in the French River that dump into the Bad River.
After work and a quick lunch we hopped in the dingy and we took a little ride. It's a little gloomy and only 73 degrees today...not sure if its due to clouds or if were getting smoke from the fires. Some of the rapids look kind of scary and even one of them has a sign advising no swimming. I'm a little worried to try them.....not sure if they are safe.
We currently have two other boats in this anchorage with us. I'm hoping that we will get more boats that come in today........the weather tomorrow is supposed to be 79 and sunny! Hopefully we can get some folks in here that know about the rapids and which one's are safe to play in.
Thursday turned out to be a beautiful day! We packed up the dingy for a long ride and headed for the rapids. We had a great afternoon exploring and playing in the rapids!

In addition to the excitement of the rapids, Bill needed to go up the mast to repair the anchor light!
Tomorrow we plan to head out in the morning for our next anchorage.......Beaverstone Bay.

Echo Bay to Parry Sound
Tuesday morning 7/18 we left our anchorage in Echo Bay headed to our next destination, Parry Sound. Parry Sound is known to be the best place to provision between Georgian Bay and Little Current, which is in the North Channel and is probably two weeks away for us.
Of course, the passage to Parry Sound had several tight spots.
This is the swing bridge headed into Parry Sound.
Loaf of bread $3.75
Hot dog buns $3.50
Hamburger buns $3.50
Diet Coke - 12pk $7.50
Beer - Tall 6pk $16.95
Vodka - 1.14 L Absolute $45.00
Marble Cheese Block, small $9.50
Bacon, 1lb. $11.50
The highlight of our last day in Parry Sound was OUR excursion on a sea plane! It was so awesome!
Tomorrow we plan on continuing north to an anchorage to ride out some rainy/windy weather until the weekend, which is supposed to brighten up!
Into Georgian Bay
7/12 - Wednesday we landed at our next destination, the town of Midland and stayed on the outside wall of the Midland Town Docks. Here we put the boat mast back up! Cheers is back to normal!!! Yeah!
We ate a the Boathouse located in the marina. The food was great, there was live music and dancing and we caught up on last Sunday's Yellowstone 1883! As we headed to bed it started to rain and we were treated to the pitter patter of the rain on the bow. Another great day! But....about 4 am we woke up to the boat bouncing pretty good on the wall. The wind had picked up blowing from town, but the waves were curving around giving us a pretty good bounce. Oh, and of course it was raining cats and dogs!
We added additional fenders, filled our water tank (we were planning on doing that in the morning), unplugged the electric and pulled our lines. The wind was going to shift from shore and we needed off that wall. So just at first light, we pulled away from the wall and headed on into the Georgian Bay!
We saw winds as high as 35 knots but the waves in the Bay had not picked up yet. We found a nice anchorage just off Beausoleil Island, a Canadian National Park where we had protection from the wind. It stopped raining and after lunch we dropped the dingy and took Roxie to shore for a much needed potty break and a little exploring of the area by dingy.
We decided to stay at this anchorage tonight. The plan; a warm shower (it only got to 69 degrees today), dinner with a little wine and early to bed. It's been a long day!
Friday morning, we started our way north up Georgian Bay on the small craft route looking for our next anchorage.
The land here is mostly flat rock, boulders and trees.
Some lucky people have wonderful "Cottages" dotting the shoreline.
We found our next anchorage in King Bay, that provided protection from all directions. We spent the afternoon exploring the area by dingy. Made porkchops on our new grill for dinner!
Saturday morning we headed off for the next destination. It was a little overcast and the bay had about a two foot swell.
Here are going through a a couple of tight section along the coast of the bay.
We landed at Henry's! This a pretty popular stop along the loop as they provide docks with electric and the restaurant on the hill is famous for their fish and chips dinners!
Sunday morning we headed to Echo Bay.
We got a great spot and stern tied to the cleat on the small island with the main island complete around us. This is a popular spot and there were several boats tied along the shore.
